About Sciendor
Sciendor is an open-access publisher of peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Each of its journals is edited independently under double-blind peer review, publishes every article immediately and permanently free to read under a Creative Commons licence, and follows internationally recognised standards of publication ethics.
Sciendor exists to publish research that has been examined with care and to keep it openly available for as long as it is read. We publish scholarly journals that are rigorous in review, transparent in their editorial processes, and free to read for everyone, everywhere, from the moment of publication.
Our commitment is to the integrity of the scholarly record: every article we publish is the result of independent peer review, carries complete and accurate metadata, and remains permanently available at a stable address. When the record needs to change, it changes openly, through published corrections and retractions.
Sciendor publishes three journals. Each has its own aims and scope, editor-in-chief, editorial board, archive and author guidelines.
Editorial decisions in every Sciendor journal are made by that journal’s editors on the basis of the peer-review record and the journal’s published criteria. The publisher sets shared standards and maintains the infrastructure; it does not influence decisions on individual manuscripts.
Commercial considerations, including the payment or waiver of any article processing charge, play no part in editorial decisions. Charges are raised only after acceptance, and editors take their decisions without reference to an author’s ability to pay.
Each journal’s editorial office is responsible for its own submissions, reviewers and editorial board. Editors handle only manuscripts within their journal, and no editor handles a manuscript on which they are an author.
Research manuscripts submitted to Sciendor journals undergo editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review: reviewers are not told who the authors are, and authors are not told who reviewed their work. The outcome of a review round is determined by published rules applied to the reviewers’ recommendations, so that comparable manuscripts receive comparable decisions.
Each journal describes its review process, criteria and timelines in its own peer review policy. See the publisher’s policies for links to each journal.
Every article is published open access: free to read, download, print and share without registration or subscription. Articles are released under a Creative Commons licence; authors retain copyright, and anyone may reuse the work provided the original publication is properly cited.
Where a journal applies an article processing charge, the amount, any waivers and the point at which it is invoiced are set out on that journal’s own pages before submission.
Sciendor journals follow the core practices and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Concerns about authorship, plagiarism, data integrity, duplicate publication, undisclosed competing interests or unethical research are investigated by the journal’s editors, and the outcome is reflected in the published record where necessary, through a correction, an expression of concern or a retraction.
Retracted articles are never removed: they remain available, clearly marked, with a notice explaining the reason.
The publisher is responsible for the shared policies set out on this site, for the long-term preservation and availability of published content, and for the systems through which manuscripts are submitted, reviewed and published. Each journal’s editor-in-chief is responsible for its editorial policy, scope and decisions, supported by the journal’s editorial board.
