Article Processing Charges
Applied Social Science Research is a fully open-access journal. No fees are charged for submission or for reading; a single Article Processing Charge is payable only upon acceptance of a manuscript.

Taxes are additional
Taxes are additional and are charged as applicable in each country's jurisdiction. The rates above are exclusive of any goods and services tax, value-added tax, withholding tax or equivalent levy. The applicable tax treatment is stated on the invoice, and supporting documentation for institutional finance offices is available on request.Applicable rate
The rate is determined by the country of the corresponding author, as given in the submission. Corresponding authors based in India are charged ₹10,000; corresponding authors based anywhere else are charged $100. Co-authors’ locations do not affect the rate, and there is only ever one charge per article.
When the charge falls due

Submission — no charge
No fee of any kind is payable on submission of a manuscript.

Peer review — no charge
Initial assessment and peer review carry no charge, irrespective of the number of revision rounds. No charge is made for manuscripts that are rejected.

Acceptance — invoice issued
Upon acceptance, an invoice is issued to the corresponding author by email and is available from the author dashboard.

Payment and publication
Accepted methods: Bank transfer / NEFT; UPI; Credit / debit card; PayPal; Institutional purchase order. The payment receipt is uploaded through the author dashboard, and once payment has been verified by the editorial office, the article proceeds to publication.
What the charge covers
- Editorial handling and initial assessment
- Double-blind peer review by at least 2 independent reviewers
- Typesetting and production of the article in HTML and PDF
- Permanent online hosting at a stable, citable URL
- Indexing metadata for Google Scholar, DOAJ and OAI-PMH harvesters
- Citation export in standard reference formats
- Long-term preservation of the version of record
What is never charged for
- Submitting a manuscript
- Peer review, including any revision rounds
- Rejected or withdrawn manuscripts
- Colour figures, or any number of pages, figures or tables
- Reading, downloading or reusing any published article
Waivers and discounts
Ability to pay never influences an editorial decision
Editors are not informed whether a waiver has been requested, and the decision to accept or reject is taken before any invoice is issued. Authors for whom the charge presents a barrier to publication may write to the editorial office setting out their circumstances; full and partial waivers are available.

No submission fee, no reader fee
Applied Social Science Research charges neither authors for submission nor readers for access. Every article is freely available from the date of publication, under the licence stated on the article.
Refunds
If an article is withdrawn before publication at the journal's request, the charge is refunded in full. If it is retracted after publication for author misconduct, the charge is not refunded, as the editorial and production work has been completed.
Institutional payment
Purchase orders are accepted, and invoices can be issued directly to institutions. The editorial office will provide any documentation required by institutional finance offices.
